Stepping Stones
What is your child saying?
Find out what sounds a new baby prefers, why baby talk has a time and place, how your newborn’s cries develops into productive and receptive language, and why it can be hard to figure out what a crying newborn needs. Track your child’s linguistic journey and discover how you, your family and friends can use language, baby talk, reading and singing to support your child along their journey from crying newborn to babbling babe.
How to use the Stepping Stones
No two children are alike. Some babies will do things earlier, some later, there is no fixed timetable. Each child does, however, hit certain developmental steps one after the other as they build upon their growing thoughts, feelings, emotions, senses and reflexes. We call these stepping stones.
Create your child’s unique roadmap: Discover what the stepping stones are, find out what’s going to happen next, get the tools and information you need to recognize the signs, and learn how to support and encourage your baby’s development. You can track how your child is developing by making notes as they reach each stepping stone, and share their progress with family and friends.
