Trouble sleeping without a swaddler
I am wondering if anyone knows whether or not it is bad for my baby to need to be swaddled still at 5 months of age to sleep with only one night waking. I want to make sure that he will be able to sleep without one when he is older. Has anyone else had this problem?

swaddling
Swaddling is important not only for your baby to retain their warmth, but also so they feel secure and calm. I don't think you can overdo this, and at that age your baby doesn't get the principle of spoiling anyway. If they aren't crying and kicking away the blanket, then I don't see the harm in keeping them swaddled. Building security and safety is so important at this stage.
I'm impressed you can keep him swaddled
Mine was out of swaddling by about three months because she was so active, but swaddling is so helpful for their sleep that I wouldn't worry about it too much. What does he sleep in when he's not swaddled? We had great luck with sleep bags which are less restrictive but still keep them warm and cozy. In fact I'm a bit of a sleep bag convert, recommending them to everyone I know. Plus, when he's bigger it means they can't climb out of their crib. You can get them in all price ranges and weights to fit any climate/weather, so maybe that might help with the transition?
benefits/risks
Hi Okeychowie,
Studies and common beliefs say that swaddling can decrease crying and improve sleep in infants, which is why it's been recommended recently in many baby books and even by pediatricians.
Some experts believe these two benefits occur because restraining the limbs helps to control the baby's "startle reflex," which can be irritating and disruptive to sleep. Swaddling may also decrease stimulation and help to calm and soothe the newborn.
Just read an article on one of the risks of swaddling too much - all day and night for an extended period of time - is that the newborn's hip joints may not develop properly, but if legs are loosely swaddled at night, and left free to be mobile during the day, should be fine.
importance of swaddlers
Swaddlers play important role in baby’s life. Swaddlers not only give a warm feeling to the baby but they also provide protection to their sensitive body.
