Peek a Boo
I read somewhere that games like Peek a Boo mark an important milestone in your baby's development. Something to do with them realizing you still exist even when they can't see you. It also apparently corresponds to when you can let them cry at night (if you need to!) as they will know that you're still there even if you're not responding. Is this correct or have I gotten the wrong end of the stick?

The Truth About Toys for Infants
Toys are the child's means of discovering both self and the world. Infant learning can be damaged by too many toys, or by toys that are not developmentally appropriate for your infant's age and stage. View eBook »

object permanence
I think you're right about this one. Peek a boo and games like that help babies understand the idea of object permanence, which basically means that objects still exist even if the baby can't see them. Just watched a great video on this - check it out here: http://www.justaskbaby.com/channels/i-see/9-11-months/sensory-memory-games
