Why You Should Watch

You may hear your baby's first word as early at ten months or as late as 22 months, but whenever it happens it's a special moment. Their language skills are developing quickly at this stage, and you can help them by using repetition and simple, consistent phrases as well as playing imitation games with them. It's important to remember they're modeling their language on yours - not just what you say, but how you say it as well. Get your child's perspective on what happens behind the scenes as language develops and how you're integral to the process.

What you'll see from a baby's eye view:

  • The whole process that leads up to that magical first word
  • How language opens up your baby's world
  • Why repetition helps baby's learning
  • Why your baby loves imitating you
  • Why baby games are about  a lot more than just playing

What you'll discover:

  • Why it's important to talk slowly and clearly to your baby
  • When to just listen and when to communicate with your baby
  • Why your baby's a unique individual who'll do things in their own time
  • How consistent phrasing makes understanding easier for your baby
  • How talking, playing games and reading to your child helps develop their language skills

Understanding all the complicated things that need to fall into place before baby says their first word gives you helpful insight into how you can encourage and support your baby's language development.
